At the inaugural Long Beach Grand Prix in 1976, German driver Hans-Joachim Stuck piloted the March 761 through the tight and unforgiving street circuit of downtown Long Beach. Known for his tall frame and fearless driving, Stuck brought charisma and skill to the newly established American race. The Long Beach GP stood apart from other F1 events as it marked Formula 1’s serious foray into American street racing, often dubbed the “Monaco of the West.” Despite the challenging layout and close walls, Stuck showcased the March 761's potential with an aggressive drive, helping cement the race as a staple in the F1 calendar for years to come.
