At the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans, British duo John Fitzpatrick and David Hobbs piloted the #79 Porsche 935/81 "Moby Dick" for John Fitzpatrick Racing. This car, a modernized version of the legendary 935/78, featured aerodynamic enhancements and a fuel-efficient 2.8-liter turbocharged engine, making it well-suited for the race's stringent fuel consumption regulations . Despite qualifying 26th, Fitzpatrick and Hobbs delivered an impressive performance, finishing fourth overall and securing victory in the IMSA GTX class . This achievement marked the final European class win for the Porsche 935, underscoring the enduring competitiveness of the "Moby Dick" design in the evolving landscape of endurance racing.
